::Til Death Do Us Part::
Seeing that it is my first post here, I wanted to write about something that warms my heart everytime.
Ever wondered if you have found "The One"? The correct person, the one you love and treasure til the day you die. The one you have made a solemn vow to. If you are not married, will you be wondering if you have found the man/woman whom you can spend the rest of your life with?
When we are young, we look for romance more than anything else. I'm sure everyone has different opinions - maybe some people look for money, some for love, some for sex, some for good looks, some for companionship.
When you finally want to settle down, what is the thing that you are looking for then? Did it differ from when you were young? I went around asking some of my married colleagues and friends this question - How did you know your partner is "The One"? Most of them told me the same answer - You feel it in your gut. You will know, somehow.
Such a wonderful moment when you know you have found someone, right? I believe in that. It is even more beautiful when you and your partner live to a ripe old age together. In a certain nursing home, I saw old couples who really live true to their vows of "Til Death Do Us Part".
Some of these old people suffered from stroke or other medical reasons. They are bed ridden or wheelchair bound. They have lost their ability to even communicate with others.
But yet, I saw an old man who visits his wife daily, rain or shine. He will bring an umbrella, just in case. Quietly, he will sit there with his wife who had stroke, accompanying her while reading his newspapers.
Today, I saw an old lady who walked 2 bus stops to visit her husband who's bed ridden in the nursing home. She sat there, massaging him once in a while, adjusting his feeding tube, etc. Silently sitting next to him just to be there for him.
I admire these couples. I always smile, especially in my heart, when I see old couples who are still lovey-dovey with each other - holding hands or hugging each other, supporting each other as they walk. I have even more admiration for the 2 old couples I see at the nursing home.
The love they have for each other is a lesson to be learnt. May everyone find their true love and live happily - For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, til death do you part. May you walk down the road of life with the one you love, forever.
